Adopted Dog: How to Set Up a PawsPet Profile, Shelter Documents, and Health History

Create the dog with «Add pet» and upload the documents in the «Documents» strip, choosing the right type. Then import vaccinations and visits from reports with «Analyze report with AI», checking each item before saving it (or enter them manually), and use «Recommended» to see what's missing. The app organizes information: it does not replace your veterinarian and does not update the dog registry.

Before you start: the folder and two special cases

Sort the papers into three groups: identity and adoption (form, microchip registration), health (health booklet, vaccination certificates, reports, treatments), and photos. If possible, ask the shelter for copies of the documents before pickup; photograph each page in good light or have the PDFs ready. Reports belong in the «Health» profile, not among the documents.

There are two cases where you don't start from scratch:

• Adopting through a PawsPet listing. Once the «Ownership transfer» is complete, the dog already appears among your pets with its health history: don't create it a second time.
• Invitation from PawsPet Business. If the shelter or veterinarian uses PawsPet Business and sends you an invitation link, for each proposed pet choose «Create new» (using the information they've already entered), «Link» (if the app recognizes a dog that's already registered), or «Skip». The checkbox that lets them view the health profile stays unchecked unless you select it.

Create the dog's profile

«Pets» tab » «+» button: a five-step process opens.

Identity

A photo is optional; name and date of birth are required, and the date can't be in the future or before 1990. If the shelter only gives an estimated age, use the date listed in the documents or an approximate date, and note in the «Notes» for the adoption document that the date is estimated.

Species

Choose «Dog» and one or more breeds: if you select more than one, «Mixed breed» appears. If you uploaded a photo, the species and breed suggestion appears only when AI features are enabled and quota is available: it can be edited and, for a mixed-breed dog, it is not a breed determination.

Details

Sex is required. Indicate whether the dog is neutered or spayed (with the date, if you know it), its color, and any distinguishing marks.

«Health booklet» (health booklet number) and «Microchip» are optional, but enter them if you have them.

Documents

After saving, «Do you have documents to upload?» appears: tap «Add document» or «Not now».

Upload documents using the right type

«Profile» tab » «Documents» strip » «View all» » «+» button » «Add document». In the «Type» menu, choose «Adoption» (the form), «Health booklet», or «Microchip registration»; for other paperwork, choose «Certificate» or «Other». Use «Passport» only if one exists: only one is allowed per pet.

Fill in «Title» (required, except for a passport), «Number», «Issued by», issue and expiry dates, and «Notes». Under «Attachments», upload PDF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, or WEBP files: attachments are ordered as pages, and you can change their order with the arrows. Expiry reminders appear only if you set an expiry date.

Import vaccinations, visits, and tests from reports

«Health» tab » «+» » «Analyze report with AI» (an active internet connection and enabled AI features are required).

1. Reports. Add 1 to 5 files (PDF, JPG, or PNG, up to 20 MB each) using «Choose file» or «Camera», then tap «Analyze with AI».
2. Analysis. Each file is read in turn; if one fails, you can retry just that file.
3. Review. The details found are already checked. Uncheck incorrect items; correct the name and date in place, filling them in where «Needs review» or «Date needed» appears; then tap «Create N records».
4. Summary. Lists what was created.

If the report names a different animal, an informational warning appears: this can happen if the shelter called the dog by a different name.

Please note: analysis uses AI credits; leaving during «Review» means losing the extracted data; when AI features are enabled, the pet's data is sent to third-party artificial intelligence services (see the notice in «Profile» tab » «AI features»).

Check vaccinations and ongoing treatments

For each vaccination, check «Vaccine name», «Date administered» (first dose), any subsequent doses, which you add with «Add dose», and «Expiry / validity date». To correct it, open it from the «Vaccinations» panel or «History» and use the ⋮ menu » «Edit». Use «Set reminder» to add a push notification for the expiry date.

For a treatment recommended by the shelter, open «Diet, therapies, and treatments» » «Add», choose «Treatment», enter the «Amount» as written on the prescription, and enable «Recurring» if it repeats. If you have questions about medication or dosage, ask your veterinarian.

Allergies, weight, and what’s still missing

Known allergies. «Health» tab » «Allergies and intolerances» » «Add»: select allergens from the list or use «Add another allergy», adjust the «Allergy» and «Intolerance» sliders, and tap «Save».

Weight. «Measurements» tab » «+» (or «Add»): enter the weight in kg provided by the shelter or recorded at the first visit. The app stores one measurement per day, and by tapping the date at the top, you can select a past date.

What’s missing. In the «Profile» tab, below the name, the «Recommended» section suggests details still to be completed, such as microchip, core vaccinations, documents, or weight, and the completion ring shows the percentage completed. These are completeness suggestions, not clinical guidance.

Who can see the data and what to bring to the first visit

To involve a family member, add them as a collaborator: «Pets» tab » the dog » ⋮ menu » «Collaborators» » «Add collaborator». They must have a PawsPet account, and you choose «View» and «Edit» permissions for each area. Collaborators can't see documents or the passport.

Set aside about twenty minutes to complete the profile on pickup evening, and bring the profile and original documents to the veterinarian.
