To record your dog’s, cat’s, or another pet’s diet in PawsPet, follow this path: “Pets” tab » pet » “Health” tab » “+” » “Diet,” then turn on “Recurring” and “Generate reminders in activities.” After saving, each scheduled meal appears in the “Activity” tab as a reminder you can check off. These steps are for the PawsPet app for owners on a phone.
Before you start
- The pet is already in the app: if not, add them from the “Pets” tab » “+”.
- You have already decided on the food and amount, with your veterinarian or by following the label: this guide is only about recording them.
- You are the pet’s owner, or a collaborator with permission to edit “Health”; otherwise, the “+” won’t appear.
- If you want push alerts, check that PawsPet notifications are allowed in your phone settings.
Record the diet with recurring meals
- Open the “Pets” tab (the paw icon in the bottom bar), tap the pet, and go to the “Health” tab.
- Tap the yellow “+” button at the bottom right: “Add health record” opens on the “Type” step. At the top there is also a purple “Analyze report with AI” card: you don’t need it for a diet.
- Choose “Diet” and tap “Next.”
- On the “Information” step, fill in “Name” with the food name as shown on the label (you’ll see it again in the reminders) and “Amount” with the amount already specified, in the format you use at home. Both fields are required.
- Turn on “Recurring”: the date becomes “Start date” (choose the starting day), and the “How often should it be given?” editor opens, where you set the meal frequency and times. In the “End date” field, you can indicate how long the plan applies, for example, until the next veterinary checkup.
- Turn on “Generate reminders in activities.”
- Optional: tap “Set alert,” switch the toggle to “Enabled,” choose a reminder such as “At the time of the event” or “10 minutes before,” and tap “Confirm.”
- Optional: under “Notes,” write where the container is or how to serve the meal.
- Tap “Next” until you reach the “Photo” step and, if you like, use “Upload attachment” to add a photo of the label (PDF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, or HEIC). Wait for the upload to finish: the app won’t save if a file is still uploading or has failed.
- Tap “Save.”
“Generate reminders in activities” creates an activity to check off for each meal, while “Set alert” sends a push notification: you can use them together. The “Add” link in the “Diet, therapies, and treatments” panel on the “Health” tab instead opens a one-step screen (choose “Diet” with the selector at the top) with the main fields, but without the attachment step.
Check off meals in the Activity tab
In the “Activity” tab (the third icon in the bottom bar), on the start date you’ll see “Diet start” followed by the food name; then, for each scheduled meal, there’s a reminder with the diet name. Once you’ve given the meal, tap the circle to the left of the row: it turns into a green disk with a checkmark. Alternatively, open the row and tap “Complete.”
If a meal doesn’t happen, tap “Skip” and confirm: the item changes to “Skipped.” Use the “Category” filters (diets are under “Health”) and “Pet” to see only the reminders you’re interested in.
Important: when you first open the app, a past reminder that hasn’t been checked off is treated as skipped. Check it off as soon as you give the meal.
Change the amount or end the diet
When the plan changes, open the diet from the “Diet, therapies, and treatments” panel on the “Health” tab or from “History.” If there are more than 5 diet and therapy entries, the panel is split into “Diet” and “Therapies and treatments”; a completed diet disappears from the panel but remains in “History.”
Tap the ⋮ icon in the top right and choose “Edit”: on the dedicated screen, you can change the amount, times, or “End date.” To remove it entirely, use ⋮ » “Delete” and confirm: this action is permanent and also removes the calendar entries and reminders.
To check that everything is working, tomorrow at the first meal, make sure the reminder appears in the “Activity” tab and check it off.
FAQ
Can I set two meals at different times?
First try the “How often should it be given?” editor, which sets the meal frequency and times. If you can’t find the combination you need, in the “Activity” tab tap “+”, choose “Food and supplies” as the type (“General” category), and under “Repeat” set “N times per day”: with “Add time” you can add up to 6 times. Here too, you can check off each occurrence.
Can someone who shares the pet with me see the diet?
Yes, if they have “View” permission for “Health”; they also need “Edit” permission to make changes. Permissions are managed from the pet’s ⋮ menu » “Collaborators.” Don’t assume they’ll also receive the reminders.
What happens if I delete the diet?
The diet is deleted, along with its linked calendar entries, reminders, and any attachments. This action can’t be undone: to change only the plan, use “Edit.”
